Today was a lovely sunny, hot day, with temperatures in the upper 80's, unlike back home in Massachusetts.
Shane had a Doctor's appointment today with his Florida doctor, Dixie Brown. She is very good and really seems to like working with Shane, and he is quite taken with her and her Vet Tec, Erica. Erica had cookies in her pocket and Shane was ready to go home with her because of them. Shane came up very lame two days ago after chasing a neighbor's Dashund out of his yard. When I called him back, he turned around to come back and I realized that he was completely lame. I am guessing that he sprained something. Because he is still on Prednisone, he can't take any pain killers, so he has to tough it out for the next 6 days until he is through with the Prednisone. He seems to be in good spirits. We took him out to lunch with us and then off the the Animal Control Office in Fort Myers to get him a Florida Dog Tag. In order to use the dog park here, he has to have a dog license. I personally think that it is a good idea since we are only part time residents, if he ever got separated from us, it would really help in getting him back. One of the requirements for the tag is a microchip, which he has, and now it is registered with the county, which is a really good thing. While we we were at the animal control office, everyone working there came out to see him and take pictures. They had never seen a Shiloh Shepherd before. He is currently conked out on the living room floor. It was a very busy day for Shane.

Welcome to Florida

This past October, 2011, John and I bought a home in Cape Coral, Florida. For anyone unfamiliar with the City of Cape Coral, it is on the Gulf, just above the City of Fort Myers.
Our house is very cute. It is white with blue trim, and it is just the right size for a vacation home. It has two bedrooms, so we can have company, but it doesn't take for ever to clean. We have a lovely swimming pool attached to the house by a lanai.
The lanai is Shane's favorite room. He actually went into the pool on our first or second full day here, but after that, I think that it was even too cold for him. We have had several nights with frost or very close to it. One of our neighbors has a row of Banana trees, and they are not looking very happy right now. I am not sure if they are completely dead or not, but it did get down to 32 degrees here and we covered our Tomato plant so that it would survive. Although some of the nights have been cold(good sleeping temperatures) the days do warm up rather nicely, and most of the days have been shorts and short sleeved shirt weather, so I am
happy.
